In this YouTube video from Auto Knight, I replace the starter motor on a 2006 BMW 330i E90 fitted with the N52 six cylinder petrol / gasoline engine.

I replaced the starter motor around a month ago with a Bosch exchange unit, which was remanufactured in Ukraine, due to a total failure of the original starter. Having scanned the vehicle with diagnostic equipment, the following fault code was present:

A0B4 - CAS: engine start, starter operation.

Some time after, the replacement starter motor had become intermittent, with the solenoid simply clicking when the vehicle is hot, creating a non-start / breakdown situation. The same fault code returned. I replaced the component under parts warranty however it is disappointing that Euro Car Parts (ECP) would not pay any labour, so this second installation has been done at my expense in terms of time.

This job is done from above and requires removal of the intake manifold, plenum chamber assembly including cabin pollen filter assembly, air filter box and air intake hoses / ducts.

For safety reasons the battery must be disconnected before carrying out this work.
