Got a P0597 code which is a thermostat failure code prior to the check engine light I was noticing excessive coolant consumption

It’s tempting to only fix one part at a time but for vehicles like these replace everything that you’ll have access to. If the electric thermostat has failed the electric water pump is soon to fail as well. These plastic parts do not like to be taken on and off multiple times save yourself the headache and time

This repair should be very similar for the 228i,320i, 328i, 428i, 528i, Z4 28i, X1 28i, X3 28i. Ranging from the years 2012-2017
