Check out how to remove and replace Engine and Transmission mounts on a 2006 330Ci. This DIY applies to many other E46 3 series, and other BMW's of previous generation as well (E36).

Changing these mounts makes a big difference in the smoothness of the engine, shifting, and vibration/noise stopped at a light.
The parts are not expensive, and well worth doing to make a big difference on the car. You just need a jack, jackstands, and a few tools to get the job done.
