►Engines need three things to run: fuel, air, and spark. Without one, they're essentially useless. While not the most common failure, older W203 and W209 Mercedes models have reached the age where their original fuel pumps could be replaced. Even if your vehicle doesn't necessarily need it, a little preventative maintenance is far better than paying for a flatbed tow.

Replacing the fuel pump and the fuel level sender isn't the cleanest job. Both sit submerged in the fuel tank, so this is a job best done with the tank near empty. Be careful with the tank open, as well, as the fumes coming out are still very flammable.
