In this video I demonstrate what can cause a handbrake to become sloppy and soft, or even stop working altogether in a BL Mazda 3 (2009 to 2013).

Remember the four possible causes:
1. Worn out rear brake pads.
2. Hand-brake adjuster nut too high or low.
3. Stretched handbrake cable.
4. Broken hand brake cable.

Note that some cars have a handbrake that operates on the front wheels. BLs are most definitely on the rear wheels only.
