Due to carbon buildup, the valve doesn't close all the way, this causes exhaust gases to travel into the intake during start up and this is why the prolong cracking or rough start. Also, when the car is hot or left in the sun for too long, the same issues occur.
After cleaning the valve and new ITV22 spark plugs, the car is running like new.
