►Brake pad and rotor replacements are as essential as they come for automotive maintenance. Although the R56 MINI Cooper's brakes are relatively small, they're your primary and safest option for slowing and stopping, so ensuring they're replaced correctly and on time is crucial. Failing to do so can mean damage to your vehicle and potential injuries to you and others.

A car's brakes will reach the point of replacement and often let you know. Large lips on the rotor's outer edge, juddering and shaking from the pedal under braking, and odd grooves cut into the rotor face all mean the pads and rotors are beyond their operating point. At that point, all you'll need are the right parts, a few hand tools, and a couple of hours to get them right.
