We show you how to replace the timing belt on a 1.8t Audi TT. While this video was shot on a TT, most of these details would apply to all transverse mounted 1.8t models of this generation. This would include the MK4 GTI 1.8t, MK4 Jetta 1.8t and Beetle 1.8t models.

The timing belt is a part that keeps the top and bottom of your engine turning together. This part requires servicing and has an interval generally ever 100k miles (see owners manual for your model). We advise replacing your timing belt every 80k miles as we have seen original timing belts have issues before the recommended interval. Failing to replace your timing belt will result in damage to your engine.
