►The front control arms in the Audi B9 A4 and A5 contain a handful of bushings that will wear out over time and use. Although it's not a potentially catastrophic issue, driving around on worn bushings will increase tire wear and leave you without the comfort Audi engineers designed for. Luckily, replacing the front control arms is a pretty standard job that you can knock out at home in about a day.
Control arm bushings and joints develop play over time from regular road use. When that occurs, the steering feel can become vague, and you may begin to hear knocks or clunks as you drive over bumps or turn a certain way. The general replacement interval for control arms is around 80,000 miles, but environmental factors can shorten or lengthen that by a significant margin. Replacing the control arms with OE parts will restore the factory ride quality.
