In an Audi A4, it is very common for the heating element inside the wing mirror glass to fail. This happened in my 1.4 TFSI B9 modelled I had the glass replaced with a third party version which wasn't powerful enough to do a good job of defrosting the glass. This is because it doesn't carry as much current as the OEM version from Audi. The OEM version from Audi had resistance of 5.2 Ohms while the third party version had 19 Ohms.
