There is hard way and an easy way. This video explains the easy way how to replace the Pollen filter on a 2011 Volvo XC60 D3 and should be the same or similar on 2008 - 2016 models.
The Volvo procedure involves removing the vehicle battery and electrical boards inside the car to gain access. I show in the video how I carried out the filter replacement an easier way. It does involve some care not to damage the new filter, but is much easier and less invasive to the car electrical system.
The procedure should be the similar on most diesel Volvos of this era.
