In this video we are going to show how to test and change glow plugs (also known as heater plugs) on your diesel engine that has cold start problems. Car we are working today with is 2002 9th generation Toyota Corolla 2.0l D-4D hatchback. This engine (1CD-FTV) is used in the Toyota Corolla, RAV4, Avensis and other vehicles. This plugs have heating element that heats incoming fuel and air to encourage efficient fuel combustion in a diesel engine. To test plugs you are going to need a multimeter. Set your multimeter to ohms. Connect one multimeter test lead to a ground on the engine closer to glow plug is better. Connect the other lead to the terminal on the top of the glow plug. Resistance of less than 6ohms most likely means the glow plug is good.
