How to diagnose, remove and replace a faulty Ignition coil on a 2002 to 2009 Volkswagen Polo Mk4 (9N), with the 1.4 litre petrol engine, using a basic OBD 2 code scanner and phone app. If your engine has a faulty ignition coil it could cause the engine to misfire or even backfire. You may have a rough idle, lack of power, poor fuel economy and it will probably illuminate the 'Check Engine Light' on your dashboard.

Common ignition coil fault codes include:

P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0351 - Ignition Coil (A) Cylinder 1 Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
P0352 - Ignition Coil (B) Cylinder 2 Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
P0353 - Ignition Coil (C) Cylinder 3 Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
P0354 - Ignition Coil (D) Cylinder 4 Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
